Definition

Sty refers to a boil like swelling on the eyelid or its edge. It generally occurs on the outer part of the eyelid but may also be seen inside the eyelid. A sty is often filled with pus and are painful .1

As per Ayurveda, a sty can be co-related to the condition called as Pothaki, where there is development of one or many boils (pidika) in the eye that resemble mustard seeds, on the eyelid. The condition is caused due to predominance of kapha.2
