Definition

Dry hair is caused when the normal sheen and texture of the hair is not maintained due to less moisture and oil.1

According to Ayurveda, normal functioning of the dhatus (tissues) is responsible for the health of hair. The nutrient from the digestion of food nourishes the dhatus; so healthy nutrient will produce healthy hair. Poor diet, lack of proper hygiene, illness, and nutritional deficiencies can affect the hair and cause various problems.Vitiated vata is also responsible for dry and rough appearance of hair.
