Definition

Dyslipidemia is a disorder of abnormal levels of lipoprotein (proteins that transport fats and lipids through blood). Dyslipidemia can be due to:

High levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL or “bad”) cholesterol

Low levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL or “good”) cholesterol

High levels of triglycerides (fats in the blood)

If plaque blocks your arteries, you are more likely to have heart disease, heart attack, and brain attack (stroke).
