Allergic rhinitis is an immune response given by body when it comes in contact with certain allergens (things causing allergy in a person). It simply means that immune system is overreacting to certain allergy causing substances such as pollen, dust mites, skin and saliva of furry animals such as cats, dogs, etc. Around 10 to 30 percent of population in the world may suffer from this condition.1-4

llergic disorders in Ayurveda are widely elaborated under the concepts of Ama, Asatmya & viruddha aahara. Impaired digestion and metabolism causes Ama. It leads to the manifestation of Pratishyaya by affecting Rasa and Rakta Dhatu. Allergy is usually caused by using wrong food combinations (Virudh aahar) having opposite properties like fish with milk, fruit juice with milk, clarified butter with honey, ice cream after night meals, etc.5-6
